Role and Responsibilities
Growing Hope Farm is a not for profit 5-acre organic urban farm that is located in the heart of Cambridge, Ontario. We raise goats for meat, chickens for meat and eggs, vegetables and fruit. We donate 100% of our profits to Mennonite Central Committee. We are a fun hardworking team that would love to have people who are willing to:

Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, and/or pumps.

Distribute feed to animals (goats and chickens)
-
Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain.
-
Groom, clip, trim, and/or castrate animals; dock ears and tails; and/or shear coats to collect hair.
-
Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures.
-
Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions.
-
Record information about crops, yields, or costs.
-
Dig and plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand.
-
Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand.
-
Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
-
Inform farm manager of crop progress.
-
Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
-
Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
-
Mow and trim lawn of property
-
Weed flower gardens of property
-
Build and maintain fences
-
Build and maintain outdoor sheds
-
Sell produce at farmer’s markets
-
Count and record sales at farmer’s markets and farm gate sales
-
Create social media postings
-
Create blog posts/emails
-
Maintain mailing list
-
Provide customer service to visitors
-
Give tours on the farm
-
Assist in facilitating groups of up to 60 visitors
-
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills
Ability to work hard under any outdoor weather – extreme hot and extreme cold
Experience in Customer Service
Experience with young children (when helping customers)
Ability to work unsupervised
Willing to try new things
Have an upbeat attitude
Able to problem solve
Able to handle constant change and a fast paced environment
Additional Notes
This is a great opportunity to have fun, learn new skills and give back at the same time. At Growing Hope we give back 100% of our proceeds to Mennonite Central Committee. They will in turn use the money to help people overseas to grow food of their own and start their own businesses.
Total:35 hrs with ½ hr unpaid lunch break and two 15 min paid breaks
MUST have at least one year of farm/landscaping/hard outdoor labour experience.
